GPT-6 can turn a ChatGPT answer into a small interactive tool

OpenAI’s new interface can show diagrams, controls, charts, and calculators inside a reply. The feature changes how an answer is explored, while its figures still need ordinary checking.

THE SHORT VERSION

  • OpenAI began rolling out GPT-6 and Intelligent UI in ChatGPT’s Chat tab on 7 October, with Free and Go access scheduled to start the following day.
  • The model may choose an interactive diagram, calculator, chart, or plain text, depending on the question; the launch does not promise a control in every answer.
  • A polished interface can make assumptions easier to change, but it does not verify the math, sources, or estimates shown inside it.

The answer can contain a tool

On 7 October 2026, OpenAI began rolling out GPT-6 with Intelligent UI in ChatGPT’s Chat tab. A response can include text, graphics, buttons, forms, charts, or an interactive experience built inside the conversation. The company’s example asks GPT-6 to explain a seven-speed bicycle. Buttons let a reader move among the frame, wheels, drivetrain, brakes, and cockpit, with an explanation for each part. That example shows the basic change: an answer can become a small interface a reader can operate while staying with the original question.

OpenAI says GPT-6 chooses a format to fit the question. A comparison might appear side by side, an explanation might use an interactive diagram, and a simple answer may remain plain text. The choice belongs to the model, so Intelligent UI does not mean every reply will contain controls. The launch note also shows a savings calculator, a bill splitter, and a game inside ChatGPT. These are examples of what the feature can produce, not a promise that it will build a correct tool for every request.

Where a control can save a step

An interactive answer is useful when the reader has to compare several choices or change one input at a time. A diagram with selectable parts can make a bicycle explanation easier to navigate than a long paragraph that describes every component in sequence. A comparison chart can put a few options in one view. A calculator can let a reader change an assumption without asking the model to recompute the same scenario from scratch.

That can reduce the work between reading and deciding. Someone comparing two home internet plans could inspect speed, data limits, and contract length in one place, if the answer has the right information. A person planning dinner could adjust guest count in a bill splitter. The benefit depends on whether the requested choice is represented accurately. The interface is a new way to examine the response; it does not supply missing facts about a service, product, or personal situation.

The rollout separates plans and models

OpenAI said GPT-6 with Intelligent UI would start rolling out globally to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise tiers on 7 October. The company planned to extend the rollout to Free and Go on 8 October. The announcement says Enterprise availability depends on workplace administrator settings. A rollout date describes when distribution begins; it does not prove that every account received the feature at the same moment.

The same announcement identifies two ChatGPT models behind this release. GPT-6 Sol powers the ChatGPT experience for Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise, while GPT-6 Luna powers it for Free and Go. OpenAI describes both as tuned for everyday conversation. That plan mapping is useful when a team tries to compare what colleagues see, but it should not be stretched into a general statement about every OpenAI product. The release concerns the Chat tab and its Intelligent UI feature.

The performance claims come from OpenAI

OpenAI also says GPT-6 makes better decisions about when to use web search and more reliably finds information that supports an answer. The company reports that the model more often addressed the key part of a difficult question in an internal evaluation than GPT-5.6. Its safety section describes training and adversarial tests for risks such as cyberattacks, biological threats, and violence. Those statements explain what OpenAI says it changed and measured.

They are vendor-reported results. The announcement does not give readers the underlying evaluation data for every task they might use, and the bicycle example is a demonstration rather than a broad accuracy study. OpenAI links to a system card for more safety detail, but that document still reflects testing chosen and conducted by the company. A useful product change and an independently established error rate are different kinds of evidence. The public release supports the first claim; it does not settle the second.

An attractive calculator can still use a bad assumption

TechRadar published an independent hands-on account on 8 October. Its writer reports using an interactive retirement-savings calculator with sliders for retirement age, monthly savings, and assumed annual growth. The article also describes trying the bicycle explanation. It says the model produced a simplified drivetrain graphic and details such as gear teeth and gear ratio. Those examples show how a reader might explore a response; they do not establish that every calculation or diagram generated elsewhere will be sound.

The same TechRadar article says a laptop comparison included an estimated battery-life figure, which the writer wanted to check against product specifications before spending money. That is the right boundary for an interface that looks finished. A slider can make an assumption visible and easy to change, while leaving the assumption itself unverified. A chart can be legible and still contain a stale price or an incorrect source. The extra polish changes how information is presented, not how it was established.

Ask for the inputs before relying on the output

For a low-stakes comparison, a reader can use the interface to narrow the options, then check the details that could change the decision. For a calculator, identify the inputs and units first: monthly or annual amounts, before or after tax, and the time period used. Change one value at a time and see whether the output moves in the expected direction. If the tool does not show its assumptions, ask ChatGPT to list them in text before treating the result as a useful estimate.

For a consequential choice, keep the generated widget in the role of a working aid. A retirement projection should be checked against a calculator whose formulas and assumptions are known. A product recommendation should be compared with the manufacturer’s current specifications. A medical or legal decision needs advice suited to the person and jurisdiction. These checks are not special rules for GPT-6. They are ordinary ways to inspect an answer when a visual control can make uncertain numbers feel more definite than they are.

The launch leaves some product details open

OpenAI’s release note says Intelligent UI is starting a global rollout, with Enterprise access affected by administrator settings. It does not specify in that announcement how quickly each account will receive the interface, which languages are supported for every component, or a control for asking the model to avoid interactive output. The absence of those details from one launch page is not proof that no related setting exists elsewhere. It is a reason to check the current product documentation before designing a workflow around a particular control.

For readers, the useful test is modest: does the interface make the question easier to inspect, and can you see the facts or assumptions behind its answer? If a button helps you compare the parts of a bicycle, the extra structure earns its space. If an unexplained number is simply presented in a more attractive box, the original verification work remains. GPT-6 changes the shape a ChatGPT answer can take. The reader still decides whether the answer is well supported.
